Speculaas...

It is thought that the Dutch name Speculaas comes from the latin 'speculum' that means mirror.

Traditionally speculaas biscuits are the mirror image of the carved wooden moulds they are baked in.

Windmill shaped speculaas biscuits are known throughout the whole world, as are male or female speculaas figurines.

These days speculaas biscuits can take any shape or form. But you can do so much more with speculaas spice than just making biscuits.

What is so special about vandotsch speculaas spice liqueur?

Some of our testers are describing it as liquid gingerbread with a kick, Speculoos flavoured vodka, even Christmas in a bottle.

How do you make it?

Easy, just add vodka to the bottle, using the little funnel included. Then leave it to sit for at least six weeks. Shake regularly and vigorously. After 6 weeks unscrew your bottle, smell and taste. When it is to your liking strain it and drink your first shot or mix it in one of your favourite cocktail recipes. You can even use it for a banana flambe or chcolate ganache. Refrigerate after straining.

What if you even want to make it stronger? Leave the bottle to sit for a few more weeks. Shake it occasionally.

What are the ingredients in the bottle?

Your bottle contains vandotsch speculaas ground spices, vandotsch speculaas spice mix, including nine spices including real, high grade, organic cinnamon from Sri Lanka, cloves, ginger and six other spices, light brown sugar and dried orange.
